The Kaat Trails
Forty acres of paths, water, and quiet.
Just a five-minute walk from The Kaaterskill, guests can enjoy The Kaat Trail, a short walk that leads to a series of waterfalls, swimming holes, and access to the Kaaterskill Creek.
Along the creek, visitors will discover a series of natural waterfalls, some reaching heights of up to six feet, with several swimming holes and places to relax by the water. During the warmer months, the creek provides a refreshing place to swim, explore, or simply enjoy the landscape.
THE KAAT TRAIL
Kaaterskill Falls Walk
From The Kaaterskill
Exit the property.
Walk to High Falls Road Extension.
Turn right.
Stay on the same side of the road as The Kaaterskill.
Continue walking approximately 5 minutes
Pass several houses.
Reach the large open meadow just before the bridge.
On the right-hand side, just before the bridge, you’ll find the entrance path.
Turn right and follow the trail to Kaat trail.
A Protected Landscape
Following the flooding caused by Hurricane Irene, the meadow surrounding the trail was acquired through FEMA’s flood mitigation program and designated as permanent open space.
Since then, The Kaaterskill has helped care for and maintain the area, keeping the trail accessible and helping preserve this section of the Kaaterskill Creek for visitors and the local community.
Important Information
Please use common sense while enjoying this area. Do not swim during periods of high water and never jump into the creek when water levels are low.
Swim at your Own Risk .
The Kaat Trail is a place of natural beauty that deserves care and respect.
Be careful while descending the trail. The terrain is uneven, particularly near the creek where loose rocks and boulders may be present. Wear sturdy footwear suitable for hiking. Please do not wear sandals, flip-flops, or go barefoot.
The limestone surfaces within the creek can be extremely slippery. Pay close attention to your footing at all times.
Please respect neighboring properties and do not trespass.
Loud noise and music are not permitted.
If you carry it in, carry it out. Please bring a trash bag and leave no litter behind.
Avoid alcoholic beverages and glass containers.
Campfires and open flames are prohibited.
Most importantly, have fun and enjoy our beautiful wilderness.
Bug spray, swimming shoes and sunscreen are encouraged.
Guests are welcome to bring towels from The Kaaterskill for swimming or sunbathing. Please use ONLY the colored towels only and leave the white towels at your accommodation.
